The growing prevalence of cannabis edibles packaged to resemble popular candy and snack brands has raised serious concerns about consumer safety, particularly the risk of accidental ingestion by children. Products imitating recognizable brands such as Nerds, Doritos, and Gushers have been found containing hundreds of milligrams of THC, prompting concerns about misleading packaging, trademark infringement, and inadequate safeguards.
Our very own Henry Wykowski, cannabis attorney and legal counsel for the National Cannabis Industry Association, was featured in a CNN report discussing the dangers of deceptive cannabis packaging and the importance of responsible industry practices. Henry emphasized that legitimate cannabis businesses do not engage in such practices and expressed support for efforts to stop illicit operators from distributing misleading products. He also highlighted the responsibility of consumers to properly store cannabis products and prevent accidental access by children.
The issue underscores the importance of effective packaging regulations, consumer education, and enforcement against illicit operators in protecting public health. As the legal cannabis industry continues to develop, establishing clear standards for product labeling and responsible marketing remains essential to maintaining consumer trust and preventing accidental exposure.
